PNA Community

PNA collaborates with a diverse array of African immigrant communities, characterized by varying cultures and backgrounds yet unified by shared challenges and needs in America. Many African immigrants originate from oral cultures or countries governed by central authorities or dictatorships, resulting in limited or absent data regarding their population sizes, the specific challenges they encounter, and their needs.

Historically, there has been a notable influx of African immigrants, particularly from East Africa, into the United States. While a substantial number of second-generation immigrants have received education in the United States, they often struggle to navigate American systems and political structures.

Despite their entrepreneurial spirit, a significant portion of African immigrants in the states fall below the poverty line, particularly those who have recently arrived as refugees or are undocumented. Additionally, misconceptions persist regarding African immigrants, particularly concerning their assimilation into American culture. This often results in a broad-brush portrayal of these communities, where negative actions overshadow success stories.

PNA’s goals encompass empowering African immigrants through research and evaluation, ensuring community ownership of their narrative, and facilitating active participation in shaping their future. Additionally, PNA aims to equip community organizations, leaders, and members with factual data to facilitate genuine representation and influence in decision-making spaces. Moreover, PNA endeavors to hold institutions and decision-makers accountable by empowering the community through education and advocacy.
